SA Fashion Week - #AW20

It's that time of the year again.

South African Fashion Week kicks off this Wednesday on the rooftop of the iconic Sandton City Mall in Johannesburg.

With 30 of SA's luxury label designers set to show us what they've got, this season is bound to be one for the books. Get ready to see what some of the biggest names in SA fashion have got coming down the runway. I'm really excited to see what Gert Johan Coetzee, De Mil, Lunar & Ephymol have in store for us.

And the opening show on Wednesday is the New Talent Search 2019, which I think is always an exciting one. With a briefing along the lines of: Shaping the Future of Sustainable Fashion, entrants had to consider 2020 world trends to submit a 7-look portfolio combining contemporary shapes, style & construction with their creative inspiration.

#SAFW - Rogue Wear

#SAFW Menswear Scouting brought some new designers to light on the runway this season. Winner Henni de Kock, designer of Rogue Wear, ensured that his runway collection was well made and executed. Another designer making use of the monochromatic palate of greys and black with a lot of different fabrics and textures.

Very glad to see more coats and cloaks on the runway this season in this collection. It is most definitely something that will fast become a very big trend in menswear in our country. That also depends on the market. Although I do think that this is most definitely a very 'wearable' range and that is probably why I like it so much.

Almost futuristic in a way, yet combining classic designs, this range sure had a bit of an air of mystery around it as it made its way down the runway.

#SAFW - Keys Fashion

Who said that short & sheer is not appropriate for Autumn/Winter 2016? Well, Ryan Keys from Keys Fashion most definitely showed us this in his new collection at #SAFW this past weekend. Couture is for every season.

Ryan Keys is known in the industry for his couture gowns, so I was very happy to see so much more 'ready to wear' garments coming out on the runway from his #AW16 collection this season, which I think proves that he is a great designer that is now opening himself up to a wider range of clientele and a bigger market.

Colours ranging in this collection from the softer sphere of the whites and greys to the darker burgundy and blacks, brought out a wide selection and a great variety of very well made pieces, as one can always expect from Keys Fashion. Even some faux fur made it's way into this #AW16 collection.

This range, entitled "A Revolution of Love", saw Samantha de Bruin taking to the runway covered in latex, symbolising the burning of tyres around bodies during the Xenophobic attacks earlier this year.
