You definitely know that I am a lover of the Gin... And what is a day closer to Christmas, without adding some Hope on Hopkins Gin to the list.

An artisanal distillery in the heart of Cape Town that prides itselfs on truly crafting its own spirits. Making their gin from scratch themselves, so that the consumers know exactly where all the carefully sourced ingredients come from. 

Using South African malted barley as the base, which is cooked & fermented over several days & then finally triple distilled to make the base neutral spirit for their London Dry & Salt River gins. Distilling on the 4th time allows the alcohol vapours to infuse through the selected botanicals.

The one that I liked most, is inspired by the flavours from the Mediterranean, a Gin made from a Triple Distelled Grape Spirit, the Hope on Hopkins Mediterranean makes the cut. Infused with olives, rosemary, basil, thyme, & cardamon with hints of citrus & juniper. (So more like the 'savoury' gin type.)

Out in Franschhoek, is the Grande Provence Heritage Wine Estate. And it is on this estate that you will find the Angels Tears wine being produced. 

According to cellar legend, angels crept into the cellar & wept tears of joy when this wine touched their lips. I recently discovered the new Angels Tears Sauvignon Blanc.

An easy drinking Sauvignon Blanc out of the Western Cape, with Tropical Fruit aromas on the nose & a palate supported by slight hints of Green Pepper. Very well balanced & leaves you with a Crisp Finish.

So I have a pretty strict grooming process when it comes to my beard. And I have been trying over the last 4 years to find the right beard products that just work well with me. Finally this year, Resulté stumbled across my path.

The oldest registered farm in Cape Town is Steenberg Vineyards, established back in 1682, produce a range of much loved wines through a process that is considerate of the environment & dedicated winemaking.

The farm boasts not only with incredible wines, but with a 5-star hotel too. The Steenberg Hotel, with 24 rooms that encapsulate the essence of what understated luxury entails. The hotel was recently restored & has been declared a National Monument & in my opinion is where the elegance of the 17th Century & the comfort and convenience of modern day have merged & blended as well as their wines.

Home to some of South Africa's finest award winning wines. But my favourite has to be the Steenberg 1682 Chardonnay MCC. The 1682 Brut is pale lemony in colour & has aromas of fresh granny smith apples, peach & overtones of freshly baked biscuits. Upon pouring there is a delicate mousse which exudes it's freshness. A creamy, yet fresh mouth feel. Definitely a a drink for any occasion, remaining crisp & refreshing on the palate without lacking any fullness.
