With the alcohol ban finally lifted, it is definitely time that we get to see what wines will be up for grabs with the annual Nedbank Cape Winemakers Guild auction going live on 3 October 2020.
The very first live & online 2020 CWG auction line up includes a diverse offering from different regions, whilst boasting some exciting styles. Just some background. The CWG was founded back in 1982 & is a collective of SA's most celebrated winemakers. The 42 individuals have been recognised as excelling at their craft by their peers & membership to the Guild is by invitation only & is extended only to winemakers who have produced outstanding wines for a minimum of 5 year & who promise not only of consistently exceeding the industry standards, but also promoting the values of the Guild. Members are eligible to submit wines exclusively produced for the CWG Auction.
Due to COVID-19, the guild needed to rethink their strategy & this year, the auction has been moved online. So unfortunately, we don't get to be social & share a glass of these fine wines with winemakers at the pre-auction tastings. However, they will be hosting 3 online lounge talks as to involve wine lovers & buyers in the excitement.
A great selection from some quintessential Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon, right through to some elegant Pinot Noir. Stellar examples of Syrah, Cabernet Franc & Red Blends which are sure to deliver on perfume & interesting intensities. The vibrancy & fruit purity of the Chardonnay & Sauvignon Blanc for this year has been highly praised. An naturally the MCC's will always be a showstopper.
This year, collectors will have the opportunity to bid on smaller lots of 6 bottles in support of Samantha O'Keefe, who lost her entire winery, home & a large portion of her vineyards in a devastating fire in December last year. The funds raised by the first case of six bottles of every wine will be added to the the support for the winemaker from Lismore Wines.
Registration for the 2020 Nedbank CWG Auction can be made on Bonham's website - www.bonhams.com, as from 1 September 2020.
