Have you got a 'Funky Ouma'?

We as South Africans all love a good braai, not true? And I love experimenting with flavours on a piece of meat for the braai. Recently I discovered the new Funky Ouma braai salt which was recently launched.

With a life-long love for cooking & healthy eating, Grandmother of 10 - Anneke van Rooyen & her daughter Johannita Eksteen started experimenting with salts, herbs & spices as to add flavours to the dinner table that aren't laden with all the unhealthy preservatives. And so the Funky Ouma  brand was born.

The original motivation was to offer nutritional spices, which are packed with essential minerals that don't have a trace of MSG, preservatives or colourants, as to encourage a healthier lifestyle without sacrificing the taste.

One thing that really stood out for me, is the funky tin that the Braai Sauce & the Braai Salt come in.
So, the salt is sustainably harvested from the Himalayas & then infused with various herbs, which are harvested from their own farm just outside of Wellington.

There is a Black Garlic salt, that is made using fermented black garlic, purple onion flakes & the Himalayan salts. This one is my favourite & is definitely quite diverse, as I've used it for my salads & potato bake, not just on the braai.

The Braai Sauce is very unique. And as you all know, I'm always on the lookout for those. A combination of fig pulp, balsamic vinegar, tomato puree, lemon, garlic & salt. Add in fresh coriander, peppers, cumin, garlic, onion, chili & paprika, will leave you with a sauce that has a gorgeous infusion of flavour for your braai meat.

The range is available nationwide from a variety of markets, specialty food shops & online at www.funky-ouma.co.za.

Share your #FunkyOuma moments with us.
