Win Diamonds with Clico

CLICO RESTAURANT CELEBRATES ITS FIRST BIRTHDAY IN OCTOBER
One lucky diner to win a diamond during month-long festivities
Rosebank’s acclaimed Clico Restaurant celebrates its first birthday on Saturday, October 1 and, during the month-long festivities, one lucky diner stands the chance of winning a diamond.

It is a double celebration for the renowned Clico Boutique Hotel which also marks its 10-year anniversary having opened its doors in 2006. A five-star boutique hotel, Clico offers top class dining facilities, service and accommodation in an intimate setting. Housed in a 60-year old Cape Dutch building, the hotel, with its modern and elegant restaurant, gives guests an unforgettable experience.

Every person who orders the tasting menu at Clico during the month of October is eligible to enter the draw to win the diamond. At the end of the month, 10 finalists will be invited to a special Clico dinner on Saturday November 5. All will be invited to choose one of 10 glittering stones – but only one will be the real thing - a diamond from Shimansky’s My Girl Collection with the other nine being zirconias.

Based on seasonal, organic and local ingredients, Clico’s tasting menu includes optional wine pairings for each dish to enhance the flavours of the chef’s creations. Executive chef is Peter van Schaik who joined the team earlier this year after having worked at Die Ou Pastorie, The Forum Homini Hotel and Roots Restaurant, Singita Sabi Sands and the celebrated Hotel Fauchere in the US.

Dishes on the new summer menu – to be launched on its birthday on October 1 – include a vibrant saffron risotto, redolent with the colours of summer and topped with a poached quail egg and asparagus; a duo of cured smoked duck breast and pulled confit duck served with macerated kumquats as well as Korean pork belly, in with unctuous pork comes is served with a fresh spring roll and house made Kimchi that is fresh and zingy and delightful and perfect for the hot weather.

Desserts include a chocolate delice served with caramel popcorn, coffee gel and hazelnut ice cream and a buttermilk panna cotta that comes with honey jelly, roast pear and mint gel.

Clico Restaurant offers a four-course tasting menu at lunch and a six course tasting menu at dinner. There is also an a la carte menu option. Breakfast choices vary from the usual classic full English to more unusual choices such as Eggs Benedict with bacon and biltong and French toast with peanut butter and bacon.

Says owner Jeanette Schwegman: “When we did renovations last year we had to make the decision whether to add more rooms or to build a new restaurant. We have always had such good feedback from diners that it was obvious that we had to build a restaurant and take it to new heights which, I am proud to say, we have achieved.”

Off-street parking is is available on 9A Jellico Avenue, Rosebank, as well as security supervised parking at the 27 Sturdee Avenue entrance.  Bookings on 011 252 3300

12 Days of Christmas - Day 3

and on the 3rd day of Christmas...
... on my Christmas Wishlist

Diesel - Sneakers

Whilst attending the relaunch of the Diesel store in Rosebank recently, I spotted a pair of white sneakers. Now my track record with white shoes is not really a good one. With my luck, I will drop a french fry dipped in t-sauce on one of the shoes the very 1st time I even wear them out in public. But, I still think these are a great pair of white leather sneakers that could be dressed up or down with a variety of looks, casual and formal.

#SAFW - Touch Of Bling

Thabo Khumalo aka Thabo Bling has always brought something new, fresh and creative to the South Africa Fashion Week runway. And this season, with his #AW16 collection for Touch of Bling, he did just that again. 'Wearability' is key in the fashion industry now days. People want to wear collections straight off of the runway and so his 'ready-to-wear' collection this season was a very good example of what he knows the market out there wants and he is making his eccentric designs accessible to everyone who is daring enough to wear a jumpsuit or suit printed with brightly coloured dice.

And then Thabo toned it down a bit, well almost. The 'oversized' big stitched knitwear is a personal favourite. According to trend analyst Nicola Cooper, we should have expected to see lots capes and cloaks, and this is a trend that Touch of Bling most definitely has picked up on and used in this collection as seen in these images below.

The colours used in his #AW16 collection ranging from lighter beige and green neutrals to more darker and earthy browns, which I think has made this collection even more of a 'wearable' range, as (lets face it and tell the truth now) many South African men are not too keen on wearing bright colourful clothing which attracts too much attention to them.

Being different, one thing that Touch of Bling does that makes them unique, specifically when it comes to the pants in his collections is the buttoning which crosses diagonally from the lower crotch over to the waist. I can imagine that this is something that some people would not like as it is not 'normal.' However I think (as being somewhat of a non-conformist myself) this is a rather interesting and unique trademark that he has going and it is setting him apart from  other menswear designers in the country.

So the only thing most people in the fashion scene have been talking about in the past week or so is SA Fashion Week for the Autumn/Winter 2016 collections from some of the best designers in the country that will be taking to the Crowne Plaza in Rosebank from 21 October 2015 - 24 October 2015.

37 designers will be putting forth on the runway this season their collections for key media and buyers alike. But did you know, that this will be the very 1st time for 17 of these designers to be showcasing at #SAFW and introduced this amazing platform.
