Bistro Michel

Bistro Michel celebrates the 25th anniversary of Michel Morand in South Africa, and we got to have a private sit down lunch with the man himself to sample his new summer menu.

I have a thing for wine. Once you walk into Bistro Michel, you are greeted by not only a very friendly host, but also this impressive wine rack. A beautiful wine rack like this is a dream to have in my home one day.

Once again, the Cobb Salad seems to be making a reappearance on many a restaurant menu & at Bistro Michel, you can see why. Crispy Bacon. Perfectly Boiled Eggs. Soft & Creamy Blue Cheese. Fresh Ingredients. This is becoming my favourite salad to order.

Duck Salad with Asian noodles.

A bit about Michel Morand. Born in France & spending his youth in the winelands. We can thank his grandmother, as she was the influence that had him start cooking from the age of 10. After training at the Thonon Hotel School in France, he moved between the UK & US and finally settled in South Africa, where he has become very well known in the culinary circles.

It was time for something with a bit more 'substance,' so I opted for a burger, only because I have heard the the burgers that Bistro Michel sends out of his kitchen are legendary. And well. Look at this. The picture speaks for itself. It is a huge juicy burger that bursts with flavours. I had the Beef Burger with Brie & caramelised onions.

Some of the other dishes around the table:
The Duck Breast, perfectly cooked with that beautiful layer of fat crispy on the outside & still full of moisture.

Côte de Boeuf (ie. a Rib of Beef) served with a Bèarnaise sauce. Perfect 550g piece of meat. Cooked perfectly & still was soft & tender.

Steak Tartare. What a beautiful presentation. With soft and tender strips of meat delicately sliced.

Lunch is never complete without dessert. Or well at least my lunch is never. (All of them are really good & I will suggest them all, because I actually tried & tested & ate them all.)

The Cherry Tart.

Orange Parfait.

Rooibos Creme Brulee.

Now this is what a dessert plate needs to look like once you are done, well almost done.

The perfect setting of a what a real Bistro should be like.
Homely. Quaint. Comfortable. Relaxed.
